“Christian soul, you have perhaps experienced many times this emotion which has the greatest inconveniences.

Anger estranges us from God, Who is the Source of peace and charity; it obscures the light of reason; it renders us intolerable to our neighbour; it is the most hateful counsellor.

Anger is also a source of ruin to families, and entails the sharpest annoyances on those who cannot resist it.

A saint has said: ‘An imprudent word uttered in a moment of anger has often the most disastrous consequences. It troubles a whole lifetime, and sometimes it takes long years to repair the evil it has wrought.’

Anger is not strength – it is a great weakness. True strength consists in controlling ourselves, in repressing and subduing the violence of passion.
